Making Dental Care Affordable for Canadians
The federal government is committed to lowering costs and increasing savings for Canadians, ensuring that everyone has a fair chance to succeed. A crucial part of this effort is providing affordable dental care. The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is one of the most extensive social programs in Canadian history, making dental care more accessible to up to nine million uninsured Canadians.
Who Can Benefit?
The CDCP is available to vulnerable populations, including:
- Seniors aged 65 and over
- Children under the age of 18
- Adults with a valid Disability Tax Credit (DTC)
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the CDCP, you must have an adjusted family net income of less than $90,000 per year. While the CDCP is not a free program, it significantly reduces the cost of essential dental services such as cleanings, fillings, and dentures. Depending on your income, you may need to make a co-payment of up to 60% and cover any additional costs not included in the plan.
Important Considerations
- Limited Coverage: The CDCP does not cover all dental services. Be sure to know your dental care costs before beginning any treatment. Inform your dentist’s office if you plan to use CDCP benefits.
- Insurance Overlap: If you already have dental insurance, you may not be eligible for CDCP benefits unless you participate in a public dental plan.
Administration and Support
The government has contracted Sun Life Insurance to facilitate the implementation of CDCP, ensuring smooth service for applicants.
